being gentle in Oxford

This is something I really like in the UK:  it may happen that you occasionally loose a hat, or a tie or a scarf on your way to work or to school. It is most likely that someone else will notice this and either just leave the lost property where it easily can be found, or even better; he or she might hang it up in a bush or tie it up on a lamppost where the object becomes even more visible.
That’s how the other day, when I was cycling up a hill I found myself  ’facing’ one of my favorite [lost] handkerchiefs. So I allow myself to confirm a statement: they ARE really gentle in Britain.
